Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

I am a psychoanalyst based in Central London, SE1 near to Waterloo and London Bridge.

I work face to face and remotely over Skype, Zoom and on the phone.

I am a member of The College of Psychoanalysts - UK and The Guild of Psychotherapists and am registered with the UKCP.

What is psychoanalysis?

Psychoanalysis is a powerful tool for alleviating suffering and re-orientating how you live. It is based on Sigmund Freud's discovery of the unconscious, and the theories of later psychoanalysts such as Melanie Klein and Jacques Lacan who challenged and extended his work.

Many people find psychoanalysis a truly liberating exploration of who they are and what they want, enabling them to re-assess their lives. Many have found relief  from and solutions to many problems including: Anxiety; Depression; Inhibitions; Problems with sex and with family, friends and relationships; Symptoms with no medical explanation; Self-destructive cycles and repetitions; Addiction; Trauma;  Bereavement; Life changes; Ethical dilemmas.

How does it work?

Our lives are full of contradictory forces: meanings, obligations, bodies, families, ideals, impulses, social expectations, names, strange desires. In often unnoticed but immensely powerful ways, these shape us and, where they conflict or overwhelm us, we suffer.

They have been formed differently in each of us, in the course of our growing up; through difficult life events and moments of great happiness; through how we have understood what has happened to us; through our culture; and by the impact on us of language itself.

Through speaking, it may become possible to set them in new motion, unknot things that are tangled up, think and make decisions, create. Psychoanalysis doesn't give a standard solution, it gives you time to work out one particular to you.

Speaking to another is not always easy and it can be frightening or deeply embarrassing. So before everything else, we need a private, non-judgemental space where we can speak.

This is what I offer.
